THE INKWELL
If you enjoy spending time with nice paper and a good pen, then this idea is for you. With a heart for those serving the Lord in ministry, The Inkwell suggests connecting individuals with a pastor/missionary/ministry worker that you “adopt” for a year by committing to pray consistently for them and send a monthly handwritten card of encouragement. Knowing someone took the time to handwrite a note and pray specifically for them gives a real boost of courage.

for the "volunteer" page:
  • "adopt" a pastor/mission worker to pray for and send handwritten notes to monthly
  • donate time to help coordinate the connections
  • donate funds to provide materials (cards, printing, etc)

THE INKWELL

In our efforts to encourage those around us, The Inkwell combines the practice of handwriting notes of encouragement along with prayer for the recipient. We purposefully consider those serving the Lord in ministry — pastors, missionaries, church leaders, ministry workers — who daily pour themselves out for God and others. These servants often work with little support, encouragement, or time for renewal, and can benefit greatly from this kind of connection.

While The Inkwell centers around those in ministry, we know that the need for encouragement is limitless — those who are ill, the elderly, those serving in the military, friends in difficult times, new moms/families, teachers — the list is extensive. For any of these folks (truly any of us), knowing someone took the time to handwrite a note and pray specifically for them gives a real boost of courage.

HOW IT WORKS

With a heart for those who serve, The Inkwell is designed to have individuals “adopt” a pastor/worker by committing to pray for them consistently for a year, and send a monthly handwritten card* with a note, verse or other encouragement to let them know they are being prayed for and supported. Involvement can range from simply prayer and cards, to phone calls, emails, visits, and other interactions as God leads and builds connections.

  • Sets of black and white photography or color painting cards are available from The Encouragement Project for use with this mission. Each series of cards creates a collage of calm, beautiful pictures that could be displayed by the recipient as a reminder of the encouragement, prayers, and support shared.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We would love to engage your help in this effort to encourage those in ministry and others who need it! Every offering makes a real difference! You can:
  • adopt a pastor/worker to pray for and send handwritten notes to monthly
  • donate time to help coordinate the connections
  • donate funds to provide materials (cards, printing, etc)
  • pray for The Ink Well, and the work of The Encouragement Project

REQUIREMENTS:
Each card that is sent to an Ink Well connection must be handwritten, positive in content, and each recipient covered in prayer.

ACTION: create card kits - clear bags with the pieces needed to complete a card. These kits could include:
  • blank card/cardstock
  • blank envelope
  • die cut embellishments - a complete scene or thought (ie: flowers/stems/leaves, boat/sail/water/sun, etc.)
WHO: this project could be done individually, with your children, or with a group of friends.
CONNECTION:

contact the manager or activity director at an area senior living or assisted living facility to see if this is an activity they would like to have available to their residents.
