Literacy is such an incredible gift — one that most of us take for granted. The ability to read opens wonderful doors of imagination, discovery, and learning.
While most kids in middle/upper income neighborhoods have an average of 200 age appropriate books in their homes, the average number of books that low income families (an abundance of which live not too far from any of us) have is just2.
Through The Book Drop, we seek to help needy children have access to wonderful stories and adventures with the gift of books. We collect donated new and gently used books that are then given to local and regional organizations that work with children and families in their communities who otherwise would not have access to them, and who would greatly benefit from such a gift.
As you can see by the drastic statistics, this is a much needed effort that will go a long way towards helping children and families. It is best when little ones have the tools (books, in this case) to grow and learn. The books go to a variety of organizations, including ministries that distribute children’s books to low income families in the mountains, organizations serving and helping children prepare for the new school year, local elementary school IEP programs, and book house libraries in mobile home communities.
Books can be sent, dropped off, or picked up, and we will get them into the right hands. It is best when little ones have the right tools (books, in this case) to learn and grow. Thanks for helping however you can!
